Good job. :) Maybe a note for the future... glass is more shiney, so give it more white love in the specular. That being said, it's also a completely different surface property, and would require a specular power map to control the attenuation of reflectivity (smaller highlights, making it appear more gloss-like).
Ive just solved the black area issue. One of the vertices had overlapped another, something I never noticed until now. Sorry about this lol. But, if anyone knows how to convert tris to quads in Max that would still be very helpful for the near future :D Thanks, Damo
@D4V1DC Thanks. I'm a fan of Grimnir too. @Vertrucio Thank you for the honest feedback. I definitely see what you mean regarding contrast, so I'll keep that in mind in the future. Could you elaborate on the lack of detail part, though? You mentioned it was 'overall' but didn't specify.
Thank you to everyone who took the time and will in the future to post some advice/insight. @jason young: That is my current plan, I just fear the time allotted won't be enough to put together a decent portfolio be the time I leave school, and but stuck jobless, and with a poor 3D portfolio.
Loving the work so far Liam. Nice to see the diversity you have in your work. For your UDK stuff might be worth looking at some post processing techniques. As for your modelling, very effective use of UVs. Top notch stuff man. Hope to see more in the future!
This is a fantastic post! There is a lot of good info here that I will definitely be saving for future use. I've been listening to Gavin Goulden's Character Art Podcast a lot over the past year and that has good info as well. @throttlekitty is correct, importing by drag n' drop will add a namespace with the filename each time. You can merge them with the Namespace Editor, and then in the future use File > Import rather than drag n' drop. This will give you additional namespace options which include merging with the root on import.
thanks everyone. it means a lot to me that these are actually being seen as something useful. :D the first video mind you is more of just a demo but it will have a tutorial soon. i hope to have quite a few more mini tutorials of fairly common yet overlooked things such as the LUT in the future.
glad you like it for future updates i'm planning on having the option to make the script automatically load the screenshots and all passes into photoshop with the right blending modes etc... and maybe also the option to tweak the SSAO setting like you do with the zdepth now other suggestions are always welcome
I assume that you have some odd Gamma settings going on in the tool you used to save or generate these images- better check that for the future when creating screens again. As for your tire: just start retopo'ing a low model mesh and bake the stuff- see for further improvements from there.
