trying to practice more on my modeling skills. Still having trouble with correct topology. Reference: W.I.P: i want to retopo it but once i make a highpoly. Should i completely rebuild(start from scratch) it for for a highpoly or retopo it and then add details? crits highly appreciated!
I've been practicing this on my own for a short while now, and I'm at the point where I don't really know what exactly I need to do to improve further so I figure coming here and asking for feedback is probably a good idea, so here goes!
Hey guys. I decided to learn to make my own hard surface designs and started to practice while learning Blender and cycles. I attempted a scifi-ish pistol. Hope you guys like the design. I rendered it in cycles. Also I could use some crits :)
Stilized hand painted knife I made for practice. I've been doing a lot of realistic stuff lately so it was nice to take a break an do something like this. You can see the original post with a Marmoset Viewer here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/v6AeY Concept from Becca Hallstedt
That wheel sure is high detail. Nice. Although am I the only one who prefers to draw things like the embossed "YOKOHAMA" and the scrathes in on the normal map? Sculpting just takes so long. Regardless, it's good practice.
I think it would be fine, but if its for practice I think you would get more out of it from texturing it completely - equally if you put it in your portfolio you can say you painted it from scratch
Thank you! I'll be posting more stuff soon. I'm not sure if I should keep on doing sculpts or start doing full characters with their low polygon models. I might need some more practice though.
Second on the ArtRage. You'll find its much easier to use than Gimp. I think youre off to a good start, just need to spend a little more love on the texture and keep practicing! Most important part..
You know what Chilly, you're absolutely right. This was the higher poly one that I did-sorry about that! I was practicing my handpainting skills and focusing on that for this assignment-sorry I guess I loaded the wrong model!
I would say yes, based on the fact that it's great practice and will improve your knowledge/skillset by learning to subd model and bake efficiently. As for things you don't have enough refs for....be an artist, improvise, use your imagination. :)
