If it helps, neutral eyelid positions are typically: bottom lid sits at the edge of the iris, and top lid rests half way between iris edge and pupil edge. Since you are doing a stylized piece you could also scale up your iris and pupil texture to meet the lids. -

high pass is the way to go for sure... just don't desaturate your source so you can keep the sick color from your photo! protip: use lab color and go to the brightness channel, it makes it real real simple to neutralize the brightness of your source for better overlays. -

Well for colours, what you could do is keep the main portion of the body a neutral themed colour - like cream or some variation - light grey etc. And then bring in strong colours in the shoulder area - orange, then a blue, red, green, anything appropriate. But own colour scheme would be awesome. -

I ended answering neutral on most questions since it's very subjective. I agree with vig. I don't really care much how it is represented, as long as i can see it clearly. It's all about communication, whether this is a heathbar, gibs, the character blinking red. As long as it's clearly visible. -

The clothes are not reading like leather. Are you noticing how "floofy" the folds are reading right now? Like there's not sharp corners or creases amidst them? Also, I'd avoid using that mat cap. Use something more neutral, like a gray clay matcap.
