that computer is already good, very good, to buy a new intel/amd is a huge WASTE of money because you will need to buy a new combo of cpu/mobo/ram (that amd uses DDR2 right=?). It's pointless and a nonsense, and more having that maching working good. My brother still uses an intel Q9550/8GB ddr2/GTX 285 and he has zero…
No credible benchmarks yet, but most expect only 10% since Intel seems to be concentrating on adding more powerful integrated graphics to these chips now. With the 4970k it is for over clicking, but its stock click is 4ghz vs 3.6 for the non k version.

Thanks people, much obliged! Bbox85 Thanks buddy, that's very kind of you. The internship is a mandatory part of our education and I have to say, I enjoy it so far. I wrote up a little breakdown of the time since the original character, if anyone would be intersted: Spring 2009: Via Last.FM I first got introduced to the…
great thanks! For those guys who need more details on those ships - books for wooden ship model builders are very good resources. Those guys often go into extreme details, like how to do the knots, and ropes and winches, sails, etc. all with close up illustrations of the small details. I got both of those books - lots and…
People keep saying that this is all a matter of triangulation in max, i think that is a load of shit. You can have an entirely triangulated mesh in max and still get bogus errors you wouldn't get a in maya. On the other hand, you can have a mesh comprised half of 5 sided faces in maya and still get a very accurate result.…
like i said, i didn't disagree at all. but if you're on a budget, an SSD isn't the best option. SSD's squarely fall into the "i want" not the "i need" catagory. i'll be getting myself one of these in the next month or so:…
you're using an dinosaur as reference, why not use real life armor/guns as ref? plenty of cool military vehicles you can use for armor/weapon ideas. Right now you just have some random stuff placed on top of it. try and figure out how a person might use current fabrication methods and armor design to fit out a dinosaur. At…
The best ones are the ones you make. There are quite a few "asset browsers" for 3dsmax, floating around scriptspot.com. They are great at helping you kit bash. If it's something you do a lot of, its worth setting up a good workflow, especially if it allows for drag/drop functionality. Here are some of my favorites. Asset…
