since your engine should support shaders, you could make some sort of terrain with animated displacement map, with like 2 iterations 1. basic shape(heightmap), 2. displacement(normal oriented) then make few frames for both and blend them together over time or something its a rough theory though
That's exactly what I was thinking. I reckon that you befriend it when it's really young and as it ages and grows it becomes wilder and more dangerous. Dont blend with the smudge tool, use the brush. Good start though, and agreed with ruz. If you want very sharp metal highlights what i tend to do is get a soft brush on a new layer and paint very big how i want it to work, then i erase it back. Actually this might explain better :) .
I took those 2 things out in the latest version of the skin shader - its gone through alot of changes so older posts on my blog are not necessarily reliable information. - in the latest version you cant change the color of the 'sss effect' - the coloring blue/red is a side effect of the blended normal technique im using.
Yep, there's a checkbox for it in the material editor. I can't remember exactly where offhand, I think it's in the Bitmap settings, but you might wanna do a Max Help search for additive transparency. hehehe it's just a workdesktop, these things come and go, lot's of files that will be delted anway, most of the time I´ve got my programs open anway so I rarely get to see it and if I REALLY want to see it I blend out all the icons oh btw, I really like your desktop image

I agree with mop, nice design and mesh but the textures are a mess. Too bussy for a start, things just don't blend together nicely. What kind of skin does the creature have, reptillian, hide? Decide and then get some texture refs from real life and be creative from there. This guy has potential with some lovin.
