too bad you didn't follow odium's advice. What he meant was to smooth out the edges of the highpoly as they are much too sharp for a bake. You'll surely notice that yourself when looking at your model's edge highlights.
Does this by chance eliminate the need to make UV splits for hard edges? (I ask because im told you don't necessarily have to separate UVs for hard edges when doing object space normal maps. )
I was just describing that I copied and pasted the mapped area plus one pixel around the edge, so if anybody was looking at that sample, they would know there's an extra pixel of stuff around the edge that's outside the UV coordinates for that face.
I have imported all of my objects with edge loops to retain the hard edges, but i'm looking for a more efficient and faster way to get this hi-poly model done, thats the basis of my post above :D
some of the topology seems a little strange, like that one edge that is being pinched off at the top of the eye. I think continuing that edge all the way through may help make her head look more round
Maya doesn't use Smoothing groups per say, It's just defining hard and soft edges. The closest way to mimic them would be going through and hardening the outside edges of the shell/UV island and softening the interior ones.
Looks pretty good but the metal edge doesnt look like metal at all, it looks like its made out of stone. The "hammer" part is gold (?) on the concept but youve made look like stone just like the edge.
Hey, it's coming along. Looks nice. Are those red, rusty bits supposed to be torn cloth? Cause right now, they look like dust. The edges don't have an actual edge, they just dither off in blurry dots.
Here's the low poly - 4,440 tris. Critique welcome! NOTE: There appear to be some ngons on the dial face, but there really are edges there lol. For some reason the lattice modifier wasn't reading all the edges... Uploaded with ImageShack.us Thanks! Jessica :)
Sweet. Only thing I'd say is that the edge wear is a little too organized, its on every edge I think u could break it up a little. Despite that I really like it. Im just being picky
