Read the manual, its connected with that bar in the left corner, vigor, you cant block unless you have enough of it. Its not very clear though. Use dodge most as much as you can instead, and quen always use quen. -

Good observations, all, and many thanks for your comments. Re: the face. 'Twasn't my intention to make her tend toward masculinity, but I was trying to avoid the rather stereotypical ultra-fem look. Part of the overall look is technical -- it's hard to "pluck" particle strand eyebrows, for example -- and part intentional.… -
