I haven't written a MEL before but from autodesk doc it suggests in order for Maya to learn the global in MEL you need to source it. (It also explains why you need to re-source it manually when you change the file) Just a guess. EDIT: This doc explains it in more details. -

Maya 2014 Mel script help request
I'm trying to select several objects and move any uv set not "map1" to map1 and delete the leftover, now unused, uv set. I pulled a mel script I found off another thread. Re: MEL script, how to query what materials are applied to what faces.
I don't do Mel but you need to do this... 1.Get a list of shading groups 2.Get a list of members from each shading group - which will be shape nodes or faces 3. Store all that for later It's about 5 lines of pymel, no idea how it'd work in mel. It gets awkward if you're only interested in a subset of objects or your scene… -

It's tre-bu-shay, you loonies. I say meem, as does everyone else I've ever heard say it out loud, but now that you mention it, "meh-meh" or maybe "mem" is probably more correct given that it's short for "memetic". -

I believe the larger the SSD, the more channels to write to nand. fer example the 256 meg c300 gives you a sequential write of 255 mb/s compared to the 128 meg c300's sequential write of 140 mb/s <-- ouch -
