When you’re shading an image, do the RGB values change equally in the shaded area?

In essence I want to recognize patterns in the color values of an image by checking if the RGB values increase or decrease in certain areas. i know this software is used mostly for video games/movies/cinematics production, but is it used in textile industry for example? anywhere else? -
hulking mass - low poly normal mapped
