Thanks everyone. @ Ferg: Right on. Yeah I was going to stick to the concept pretty close as far as details and colours go. VERY minimal decay and yeah still quite smooth. playing with hair. I like the length but I am gonna try and mess it up a bit.
@JasonLavoie: Thanks for the advice man, i'll keep that in mind :) So guys back with a light pass. I'm probably put the decay of the lights to something like 2.1, and i'll be replacing the white box with a large generator. I might put orange lights at the bottom the generator, still deciding on that.
Alright, I finally made myself finish it. Finished textures, added gloss (specular decay, width or whatever you call it) and reflection texture. Oh and here proper final rendering in xsi. 5 lights + phong shader, nothing fancy although I like the end effect.
grungy/rusted edging is legit, pilang, 'cause old school tanks had gaps where shit could gather and decay in the seams of the armour. The texture's well made (not saying it couldnt use a tune up) but the model's letting it down. What did you use for modelling reference?
Resin casts also didn't used to be alive. Yuck, yuck, yuck. My gag reflex for death and decay is very shallow. :/ (decent reference though, I don't think I ever seen a male/female skull comparison in front and side views before. Leeching for the archives!)
hmmm house boat... a boat in general would be great. Just so long as the zombies don't climb up your anchor. BTW wouldn't zombies float? they are decaying after all so they would float theoretically so they would just float up to your boat and get on.
I think that what will really take this to the next level is if you spend a lot more time varying the damage that you are applying here. For instance on your first archway you have the same noise kind of splashed around in blotches, and it doesn't really sell the aging effect you are going for. I would really go back in…
It's kinda cool to watch everything you loved as a kid slowly decay and die before you do [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDCjIjsZp_Y[/ame] Remember when Lucas Arts was fighting Blizzard as the top computer game developer so many years ago? WTF happened?
The broken railing and the olive (as opposed to green) foliage really helped give the original a sense of age & decay. The fence over the waterfall took it further, implying that the current users didn't even bother to match the skill of the builders, and instead just threw up something that would work 'well enough'.
Had a massive unbarible toothache once (enough to keep me from work), took some advil went to the dentist. Had some perscribed antibiotics and it went away afore a few months (was a possible root decay/rotting). It came back and I had my tooth pulled :P
