Every other year I'm testing a new Blender release to see if I'm able to adopt it for my needs and 2.8 really is on another level. After switching to the "industry standard" keymap it's like I've never used anything else :D Now I'll have to check all the seldom used but still important features but it's already an awesome…
I'm aware to not apply the modifiers as much as possible. However, if you're working on an asset for production eventually at some point - you will need to edit the resulting mesh after the modifiers have done its job. This is where you will need to apply the modifier, else you couldn't continue to add details n…
@JedTheKrampus: have you watched the system monitor for cpu usage accross different cpu cores when doing your comparison? If this is a multithreading issue then it might not be easy to fix. Also: is anyone else experiencing that undo no longer works in 2.73 for simply moving an object? I switched back to 2.72 right away…
Perhaps, but can you really complain when what you do get is this good and free? I think it's a small sacrifice for getting such a great tool for nothing. Besides, they are working on it. So it's not like ngons will never be part of Blender. I'd say, be patient and just work around the limitations for now. Everything else…
I often have issues painting weights (i.e. accidentally painting a hand from the other side to... the leg) and I wonder if anyone else here seriously bothers with the painting tool for weights or just assign them by hand through the mesh edit, for some 3000~ish poly mesh. Also is there a better way than getting bones to IK…
There is one edge case where it is easier and that is with the "Closest" "Snap With" option. This one allows you to snap the vertex closest to the element you are snapping to to that object. This at least covers my cases to 90%. EDIT: Just to have it mentioned once: Remember that the hotkey Ctrl+. in Object mode switches…
Regarding PSD support in Blender. I might just have misunderstood it but wasn't PSD dropped in favor of Multilayered EXR? I know it probably has something to do with the licensing issues (like almost everything else in Blender) but I vaguely remember a developer talk about the advantages of multilayered EXR over the PSD…
Thanks, that's the problem I had - I found that you'd need some sort of tension to create the nice layering effect. As I stated in another thread, the tutorial that Jurassic posted shows the cloth wrapping at the point it touches the handle, everywhere else it's free-floating in the air. In blender the cloth simply drapes…
"Poor knockoff" -- you make it sound like it would be lacking or malfunctioning, which I disagree. I'm glad you have everything you need, I hope you make some great art with it. To correct what I said, using the bpy.app.handlers.load_post app handler in a script would let you run a function anytime a file is opened, making…
Anyone else here having issues on Windows with Blender taking an eternity to start up (or to open the file dialog if the app is already running) if a network share is not/no longer accessible? I have been dealing with this for years but was hoping it would have been addressed by now - but latest official 2.79b and 2.80…
