Woah that sound cool Kwramm. Been working on my HLSL shader. Got blinn working with normal maps spec etc. Need to add in multiple light support and currently looking into if I can script somehow a better menu for the HLSL plugin.
From what I have read, Deffered Lighting (Or lighting-prepass as we have been calling it before) has some downsides, especially if you are doing multiplatform games because of the double geometry pass with PS3. Cryengine uses a mix of techniques, but it renders out all the Gbuffers as in Deffered shading and your stuck…
I made some gpgpu stuff in Unity using tons of graphics blits and pixel shaders. http://keenleveldesign.com/pimp/gpgpu/raycasting01/WebPlayer.html This example uses gpu raycasts to test visibility of the surface to an area light, the textures on the left are the scene triangle lists uses for raycasting.
Thank you for providing a simpler implementation. I was in the middle of developing an advanced MatCap system (that orients the texture toward an arbitrary point-light) when I shot the tutorial. I should have simplified my approach for the tutorial, but evidently didn't. Thanks again for your comment. :thumbup:

Nice work renderhjs. I did a little more work on my BSP/lightmapping in unity: I had to pretty much rewrite the BSP manipulation code due to some stupid thing I overlooked the first time, and theres still a nasty crash I need to track down. These lightmaps are rendered with area lights, radiosity and AO.
@ZacD For low priority shells for lightmaps I turn off scaling and then scale those shells down layout so they stay smaller than the rest of the pack, this also means they usually fill in the wasted space. I developed a light mapping toolbox for Maya if you're interested you can see a video here…
