Oh yeah, there is a highlighted-button bug, sometimes happens when you copy a button to a new toolbar. Button still works though. Just a PITA with something visual like the Restrict-To-XYZ axis buttons.
It looks to me like it's the quad menu freezing a section of your viewport. does this happen in JUST the viewport? does it also happen on your toolbars if you happen to right click near them when it freezes?
you toggled the window/crossing button on the main toolbar (probably has a hotkey as well which you might of accidently pressed at some point) This is what it looks like now for you; This is what you want it to be;

There's a button somewhere called Keyboard Shortcut Override (or a similar name) - try searching the Max help for "keyboard override", it should help you out. Chances are you just hit that button (it's somewhere on the toolbar) by accident.
Sure you don't have Selection Lock on? (The little padlock icon near the centre of the toolbar at the bottom of the screen). Default key for that is Space so it seems likely you might have hit that then saved the file.
There's a button that looks like a sheet of paper in the toolbar above the space where you type your reply, reading "Attach image/file". Click the arrow and you'll be able to paste images from websites in your post.
Who knows if you will win but you will always be able to say you entered which is well worth trying :D also "Toolobag" I was far too amused by this typo then I should have been haha
I created a custom Toolbar between the Command Panel and my Viewports for my most used Modifiers. Doesn't take as much space as the buttons in the Command Panel. I like my Modify Tab nice and clean...
