Hmmm, that method does make sense because it keeps all the UV coords packed in the 0,1 space. Baking to a new texture at the end also makes some sense, it's just hard to get a figure on the GPU cost if you do a quick prototype in the GFX engine because you'll have loads of draw calls. 3DS Max, normal map problem
I make my normal maps using 3D studio max 8's Render to Texture function. So far the normals maps come out good. Any anomalies I fix up in Photoshop. So far everything's been ok.
