Day 21/22: After some days of pure frustration because of silly performance, I got to work on the sheathe and sword. Tomorrow I'll work on the hand-part and "finish" the sword to have it game-ready.
I will be working on a Level in UDK from start to finish in 21 days while i have a break from class. I will post my progress here from start to finish. In three week i should have a beta release of a level. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

@Reza, Add edge loops close to an edge line on all the areas you want creases. http://cgcookie.com/blender/2013/06/21/tips-creating-sharp-edges-modeling/ The method I'm talking about is under the proximity loops section.
With padding it is most likely still 4MB (memory access). You need to consider mipmaps to, therefore 2048^2 = 16 MB + 4MB + 1MB + 0.25MB ~= 21 MB Not everything is hold in real videomemory, parts are in the system memory which will be uploaded on demand.

The normal map will capture a lot of that rounded edge detail, however that 90 degree corner can be beveled like how I showed in my last post (#21) and should help your low poly conform more closely to the high poly.
