Smaller scale was the right choice. The smaller blockout with temp lighting is going in the right direction! Keep knocking out the blockout and get to the modular assets  Materials and lighting will make this environment look awesome.
I tried maya years ago and enjoyed it.. But currently don't have the time to learn a new package or the budget right now. Can't use windows only as I am running some other stuff in oscar that I need. Guess I'll have to find another way.. How about rendering with light maps, any tutorials on that? Never had to do light maps…
Simply looking at the guy you link in one of your portfolio pieces turns up some decent looking vehicle renders that immediately jump out at me, so i would copy what these three users are doing and come up with a style similar that stands out. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/gJwJVm…
Have some updates to show! Decided to change the hanging light in the background bouncing light off the wall to be an entry way with light coming out. Right now it's a little harsh in terms of contrast but I plan on having a cloth drape across the entry way and use SSS to soften the lighting. Early tests of it look good, I…
Really nice work so far. I like all the detail everywhere, it's almost too busy yet it gives a very rich feel to the set. The rug on the stairs needs a ending trim/edge to it at the bottom, right now it sort of ends in the middle of a texture tile and doesn't look quite right. Don't forget to punch up the contrast in your…
Well, first of all we need to know if you're going for a cartoon look or a realistic look? If you're going for cartoon look, you're right on track to making some superb textures. They need some more loving, however: Add more contrast to the colours, right now theres a lack of saturation in the colours and its making…
Here is the first design for our first enemy. Our plan is that the boss fight will be partially fought in the dark. The mask will be casting light. So there will be a light mechanic. The only source of light will be the boss who will be casting light from his mask.
Hello! I have a question for rendering from max. I am trying to render a scene that has 2 things: * Ambient Occlusion * A sun as a single source of light TO do this, I am using 2 lights in my Max file: * SkyLight * Omni Both are set to cast shadows. Both have their light intensity/multiplier set to "0.5" Right now I am…
XCOM 2 uses a fairly modified version of UE3. It procedurally generates the maps your guys fight in by arranging random, modular map segements in a pre-defined arrangement. I'm curious about how the lighting for a level would therefore be achieved. I'm more familiar with UE4 than UE3, but the technical limitations of…
I probably should have asked what you used to bake. I just did a quick bake in Knald and it seemed the bake worked perfectly fine. So it would seem like your bake was the issue. If its the bake causing the problem it means your baking cage is either too small or too big probably. Knald has a slider for it but whatever…
