Going fully 3d gives ultimate freedom with the camera. If he wants to do it so bad and there are people who pay him to do it then what the hell? And i personally belive that there is huge future for relistic looking 3d movies.
duplicate the mesh under you're future decal, use the push modifier to raise it off the surface a bit (1/4 inch maybe?) Cut out the rough shape you need. Planar UV to your decal texture.
Maya with MJ Poly Tools works fine for my modeling needs. Hopefully future releases of Maya will have more devoloped mesh painting and sculpting tools since they've become pretty popular (zbrush, mudbox, silo)
Who wants maya to incorporate Modifiers in their next release... I DO! For now I've imported the building as pieces, i'll try out some different ways in the future and see what I can get. Thanks pixel.

I really like how the roof turned out, and it has way lower polycount than I thought it would have (3k tris). In the future, I will definitely make a new slate material, sculpt the plaster a bit…
Ah okay, if you loaded your base normal map into the material slot after setting up a texture project that would overwrite the texture content from the texture project. We plan to improve this so that is no longer possible in the future.
Hey I thought I would try and start a few material studies to get some of my texturing down for a future project. I am making this thread just to get advice and further my texturing skills, any input you guys have would be awesome.
