Hi, all! Please help me to understand why I can't bake correct curvature map for my mesh. So I have: 1. Lowpoly mesh. 2. Normal map which I painted in NDO. (as far as I know it's OpenGL Normal) That's what I'm doing: 1. Export mesh from Maya to fbx. Triangulated, with smoothing groups, with tangents and binormals. 2. In…
Poly count isn't really an issue nowadays, they are fairly cheap on modern hardware. Lots of games use this technique, more or less extensively. You don't necessarily need to have all edges soft though. Or you can do a combination of baking pieces that would otherwise be too highpoly, and apply bevels on corners of…
@thomasp I'll be honest, I'm not sure. I'm not an experienced graphics programmer but there's a few points I'm going to raise from that side of the fence. 1) You're essentially pre-computing what the face is going to look like... Every frame. This might not be way too expensive, but it's a lot harder to optimise code that…
Generally huge graphs just take alot of calculating power. Although SD calculates everything and then holds that informaiton in cache. When a change in the graph occurs only those nodes affected by the change are recalculated. So check your system stats again right after you changed something. Its just the nature of…
diffusion is padding but with no limit so if padding wasn't working, the value wasn't high enough. you'd want a minimum of 32 pixels at 4k if you're going to use padding
Day 30: Forgot to upload my work from Monday, AGAIN. I tried to make the handguard again. I cleaned up the mesh, unwrapped by smoothing groups, and sized the UV islands to ~75% 0-1 space, to simulate having other objects on the same Texture set. My findings: I can't bake curvature! I don't know what's causing this.…
Generally no, you would not create a unique high poly mesh for something as large as a building. The primary reason for this is that you would never be able to give it enough texture resolution. Just think about it for a second, you've got an entire building using something like a 4K texture and a character standing next…
I love this game, and i love to beat the bad guys in the city. I spend more time fighting mobs than following the main quest :) (like with assassin's creed). The integration of physx and TXAA and other effects makes the experience much better. I love to see how the snow is deformed, the cape, the effects, etc. Glad i have…
I don't want to dismiss any techniques that work for people but a lot of people I know personally who've complained about eye fatigue were sitting in the dark all day. either that or they're using the cheap 4k screens that Dell were shitting out 3-4 years ago, those things are a blurry mess
I may be confused, I may be wrong and I would be very happy to find out that is the case but.. Even if we pretend there's no Out of Memory crashes in the HLOD builder it still behaves very inconsistently and will frequently lead to GPU crashes on launching your level I take a relatively small (4k*4k) landscape I create an…
