F (front view), Z (zoom extents), click on the the light to select it. He's using a Free light, which means there is no target. If you select it and go to the Modify panel, you can turn on Targeted to see the direction as a vector + dummy.
If you're completely new you should probably just learn Photoshop by itself. every artist should be a pro with that. Also 3Dcoat does 3D painting. The quixel stuff is an extension for photoshop that doesn't do 3D-painting, only 2D.
References have been around for ages and are commonly used. Scene Assembly is new and only appeared in the extension release of Maya 2013. I would definitely advise people to look into this feature. It's perhaps seen as the next logical step for referencing.

@ plastix. Hmm Good :D @ ambershee: Exactly BUT current LPV in UE4 builds is not the onee Lionhead using right now. They improved it to a great extent. e are using the first version. That is why I was hesitating in the first place in fact :D

At this moment, I'm sticking with shockwave.. F-15 Experiment I'm looking forward on webGL in the future. Currently webGL (nightly chrome) does support acceleration on my old GFX (ati9600xt, XP and Ubuntu 10.4 + Edgers) with a limited extensions.
