He was on the "solo race around the world" when his boat crashed onto the island. Oh and if you freeze frame the preview you can see that Desmond is in the episode. It is aterall a Desmond centric episode. -

@Molo - yes dude - looks very nice! Some proportional tweaks to make but a great start. Candles can be tricky to sculpt/define materials with well, looking forward to more on this. -
