yup, i just got myself one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130336670589&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT which was ridiculously cheap for a brand new wacom and im certainly no longer a student! I really like the surfaces on the new wacoms over the old ones though.
I tried some wacom beta drivers and had that problem. Then when I tried to install old drivers it was still broke so I deleted all the wacom files from, C:\WINDOWS\system32 Wintab32.dll Tablet.exe WacomTablet.cpl Then re-installed old drivers and it worked.
Most, if not all of the newer pen displays have an IPS panel, which means much better viewing angles. In general, the wacom alternatives have improved quality quite a bit over the last few years, perhaps to the point where the only real difference is the special etched glass that wacom uses. Check out this guys reviews on…
I bought my wacom intuos on studica.com. If your a student you'll find some of the best prices there (for a new wacom at least.) Now if you can afford it down the road; look into a Cintiq. I just got the Cintiq 12wx, and my god is it awesome! It took me like 4 months to save up for, but worth every penny IMO. Good luck man.

How well do they work for digital painting compared to the wacoms? Comparable to the Graphires? For that price, I'd like to try their 6 x 8. I've been begging for years to get a Wacom, but damn they're expensive. I'm too embarrased to join any more sketch groups using a mouse.

sounds tiring if you have to work on a touch screen monitor all day long - what's the benefit anyway? you still need a mouse, unless everyone else, pixologic, autodesk, etc. make their UI finger friendly. Instead of wacom-mouse-keyboard it will be wacom-mouse-keyboard-touchscreen... yay
The Wacom Desktop Center is telling me that "No Device is Connected" when my Cintiq 21UX's pressure sensitivity isn't working. I've tried restarting the machine, installing the most recent driver, starting and stopping the Wacom Professional Service in Services.msc... any ideas? The Cintiq works as a monitor, but pressure…
I have an HP 2710p convertible notebook with a built-in Wacom digitizer. I got it without an OS but put the Windows 8 preview on it and it's pretty good. I'm running Sketchbook Pro and Wings 3d on it and performance is OK, but not great. I'm now looking for a Linux distro to install on it and have been wondering which ones…
