ah. k. hmm.. is ignore root translation set in the anim editor too? By replicating it with that setting it may be the cause. Is there any root bone motion in your animations (non matinee driven movement that is)? .. I seem to have a thing for problem solving and debugging. may try to replicate this later in a basic scene. -

Instances are still mesh items, so they still have their own pivot and center. I believe you are looking for Replicators, not mesh instances. Keep in mind you'll need to enable replicator drawing under Viewport settings ("o" key), drawing and control tab to see more than just their bounding box. -
