Mop: I'd avoid that native OBJ im/exporter unless its radically changed since the Beta. I was trying it out last month to import an OBJ from Zbrush and it took over 2hours still frozen. Using a plugin OBJ importer in Max6 took 5minutes to import the same model.
So Just a question for the experts on if you know of any good desktop previews. Either maybe one that can make the OBJ icon, look like the actual obj file, or lets say a targa icon look like the targa. Or maybe a program that lets me quickly preview lets say OBJ files or taga. Is there some specific rules to get the 3D view to work I cant get obj's to display that are created in Wings3d? It zooms in really far till the whole screen is grey, with no obj displayed and no way of knowing if anything is happening. I've triangulated the obj's, I've changed the sizes. I cant think of anything else.
I noticed that you were exporting into obj. I also had a similar issue with triangulation errors using obj but after switching to fbx all problems went away. I assumed it was an issue with the Blender obj exporter. I also needed to increase the scale by a factor of 20x.
Export as an OBJ and import into Max. If the Max obj importer is giving you problems, try FBX. If that is still giving problems, try the guruware Max obj importer. Are you sure you are ready for an art test if you don't know how to do this? Well, good luck anyway.

If I try to keep peices together using a box, the progrmna never fully uses the texture sheet as much as it should, total failure.
