Five! No it really depends on the object. For a closeup of a gun barrel you would use more sides then for the pillars of a fence. General rule of thumb is, if a player can get really close to a object and its a hero-object then add more polygons to it.
Allright, I did the unthinkable. I textured my 10 million polygon highpoly. Tell me what you think, I want this to look realistic, I'm thinking of using it as a portfolio piece. Any c or c welcome!
Yep and yep. Your roof will need to be double sided, so don't use just a single polygon use a box or something similar. Make sure you're rendering from a vray physical camera and not a view like perspective or orthographic.
after i see kane and lynch id start to think somehow the censored thing look better than flat polygon with flat bloody red fluid animated texture. .. really. but hopefully it wont overused by other title in the future
hey, cant tell too much about vfx for mobile development. but I dig the atmosphere and style here! well at some points the polygon look of effects a bit distracting. also the low resolution of these signs feels a bit strange.
your overlaps are because of ngons which look to be triangulated in such a way that the triangle overlaps the border of the polygon. In other words, connect up those ngons how you want them and it max won't triangulate bits for you and get it wrong. :)
was playing around with the xgen stuff at work and seems like a good solution for hair. i can display the groomable splines as planes, but cant really find any information on converting this to actual polygonal geometry, anyone have any insight on this?
I see you are using Maya, have you tried PFX? Try these preset here, once converted from pfx to polygons you could tweak it even further. http://www.mayzie.net/wp-content/downloads/paintfx/mayzie_treePalm.mel
Kinda bummed they're so far away from their kickstarter goal amount. With such a short time period left it seems highly unlikely to succeed :/ Perhaps if they'd spammed polygon or kotaku and the like they could get some more attention.
I hereby dub thee, Sir Noobsalot. You may now proceed to modeling and texturing this particular arrangement of polygons, as specified by the concept art, chosen by the June Order of the Monthly Noob Challenge Brotherhood. Go forth, young noob!
