Check your local library. They might offer free access to lynda.com so if you have a library card number and pin you can just log in at home or anywhere you want to watch and learn. There's some basic modo series in there plus autodesk, zbrush and blender lessons.
Neither Xnormal or Keyshot use the GPU. When you say venting- do you just mean you hear fans spinning up? That is probably normal but if you are concerned you can log temps. The best solution here is a better CPU cooler and better case cooling.
the models look good on thier own but the scene looks very washed out, perhaps its lighting or fog or post process making it look so white/gray overall. I would expect some darkness and some highlights. AO loos a little heavy in some places.
i use digsby as some of you. i love it. one of the features that i love is that all of your settings get stored on there servers. so if you format you dont have to customize again. you simply log in and it everything gets set up like it used to be before.

Hi, SP imports both obj and FBX - what program did you create the chess piece in? Can you export from it as FBX and give that a try? Do you get an error in the SP log tab when you try to import the obj - or what exactly happens?
Yo everyone! We did a new dev log for Oi, Innkeep! It covers the decorating system we've got in place. You can check it out here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/824840/announcements/detail/1654388046325627470 Got some more character art coming soon as well!
Been a hot minute since I've logged in here, so I'm just now catching all of this. Thanks for the feedback guys, it was pretty much around what I was expecting, but it's a relief to hear my line of thinking was on the right track. I'll keep plugging away on my work!
