I think keeping perfect quads only really matters if you need specific edge loop/ring selections, and in particular in facial modelling for accurate deformation. As Stahlberg and StrangeFate (both seasoned pros with high-poly modelling) say, you can get away with n-gons in a lot of areas. A triangle or a pentagon here or… -

I see tons of n-gons in Andrew Hodgson's work there, @CreativeSheep .The only person who said anything about modeling totally in n-gons is yourself. Read the thread again, look at the referenced images -- the argument for n-gons seems clear to me, but your's is not. What is the point you are trying to make exactly? -

Ok, icky fix, but it works. It was in the first place I looked, it just seemed like it was a bad idea. There are 26 named commands that get treated special and have their default hotkeys listed in menus, such as "File>New Ctrl-N" in Maya 2012. Now that surface pro has switched to N-trig over Wacom has anyone noticed significant change good or bad comparatively? N-Trig and wintab drivers cover all the apps now? If N-trig anyway... why not go for more screen real estate like 15" sony flip with the i7 option? -

He's being very serious, when I worked at 3point we had an n-gon jar. Every time you use an n-gon, you have to put a dollar in the jar.
