Send all but one of the faces into 1-2 UV space instead of 0-1, then move them back when you've baked it.

Even though the AO slider goes from 0-1, you can type in numbers higher than 1 to darken the AO.

In the ibl engine I've used, roughness over a value of 1 has no effect. In other words, it takes working values of 0 - 1.
