Some wall substances created for a layered wall material. While the color masks worked out nicely, I might resort to creating this layering via vertex paint in Unreal. Already got a material set up for that, will show it once it's all connected.
I'll set up some side by side stuff later on with the gem moved on top to compare. The way the mesh is made, there is no sliding of the armor or anything so it won't clip, if that's what you mean anyways. I'll give it a shot later. Thanks for the critique.
It looks like you're not aligning your layers correctly. NDO won't change your layer position - only you can do that. You'll need to work from your UVs, which you can place above the NORMAL group.
It was part of the Variety VFX breakdown - as the scene played out the horses were stripped back layer by layer to show how they worked (full textures/flat displacement/muscles and rig/skeleton). Its sort of the guys over in comp flexing a bit :pleased:
Yay for Googling after posting questions... sorry. For those having the same problem; It's a Max Design thing, it sets new object creation (therefore object colouring too) by layer rather than by object. The prefs has an option to assign by object and not by layer.
You should add some variations in colour on the concept. Make the lower layers of the armour darker, and the upper layers lighter. It will really bring the design to life, aswell as give us a better understanding of what is going on. :) The 3d work is pretty good though.
all rite, so basically, more weight in the mid section rite? as for the face, i'm going to edit the normal map later on to add pores and wrinkles so it should look more "complete" later on ... hehe ~ thnx for the suggestion! udpate coming soon...

I am now improving the project by applying the feedback that I received. Feel free to add your own feedback in the comments! Final…
Another handy script for work. Can multi-rename layers and more. I had a situation where I need to rename many layers. 3Dmax can't do it. Only this script can do it. https://github.com/cb109/interactive-universal-renamer
Not in the same way that you can in ZBrush, no: the pixels of the whole document area are always evaulated. What you can do is toggle visibility of layers and effects to help performance, or organize layers into groups so you can toggle a whole set at once.
