Autodesk offers now 3DSMAX Indie which is fully functional, for 250 $ per year. This would be a reason to stay with Max, the only problem is that they didnt offer it in Germany right now.... -_-" .... It´s Autodesks answer to the Blender 2.8 hype.
All right then, thanks yall 4 the help! I think sometimes (not the case of the gif) tris can be formed by the function of a denser mesh with a simpler one, for instance the neck and the head, or by core edge loops/unarticulated area. Cheers!
do some of you guys just asume kub and adam and the other admins do not have functioning brains or something? They're more than capable of realizing ideas like this on their own. If they haven't done it they apparently don't want to.
You could try a displacement map. I forget the name offhand, but Maya has a function to convert images to polygons. Neither of these really make clean geometry, are you wanting to take a shortcut from a piece of concept art?
Any updates? I'm baking out black maps when I use 'Map by mesh name'. It is happening every single time I use that function on different models. I've tried using both FBX and OBJ.
Struggling to find the words so I'm just gonna say it "flabbergasted:O" "amazing", there I said it:) no really though this is just an amazing amount of work and you still pulled of a coherent and functional looking map despite the size of it all:thumbup:
Are you using R16? Because, as far as I know R16 actually has a 'reflectance channel' which should incorporate the functions you're looking for (roughness and specular strength, etc.): [ame]www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj1wLfKLj9Y[/ame]
Did more searching of reference pics. Not really sure what the functions of each individual parts are but I'm so fascinated by the design aestheticsthat I think it's worth pushing the level of detail some more and turn it into a hero prop.
I just got 3DS max 2014 and I was using Blender before that. I am trying to find out what all the functions I used in Blender are in 3DS max. Thank you for the speedy and informative reply.
Thanks for the comments guys much appreciated! And yeah, the animations are a bit exaggerated and over the top. At first I wasn't going to make any animations because it's static in the game, but later decided to add a simple animation for demonstrating the functionality.
