Make sure you are at the 'Parent' level of the material when you apply it to your object. If you are in the normal bump section it will come out like that. Tiger worked great, then my parents borrowed it and burnt it. (Burner was pitch black, non-stick pot black too) I have a Zojirushi now, works fine. Think my parents go through a few rice cookers, since they use it to make curry, soup, sticky rice, etc. -

The MI has no parent, thats why no groups show up. See how Parent says None. Reassign master material again and should be fine. Try pressing the > arrow on the scrollbar instead of dragging or clicking on the big scroll block. The scroll block sometimes bugs out to my experience. The little arrow usually works. -

when I have a group with meshes in it and parent that behind a group with other meshes, the meshes form the child parent, won´t look right in Wireframe mode. I can either see no wires at all or when I have a few changes on the material, only see subtle dots and the edges are gone. -
