What if you paid 50k and just learned the tools and unwraveled a bunch of lies the school was pitching? That's about what I did, it cost me time and money. Although I had the same idea as Robat going in, that I just needed time for uninterrupted practice. Sure sucks to spend 50k on stuff I already knew and just hear people…
[ QUOTE ] Surely rendering displacement from your normalmap and baking AO from the displacement is easier than manually painting out errors? If not then I must find a way to make it so... 'cause a workflow that involves painting out errors around every rivet just can't be the best answer. [/ QUOTE ] The baking displacement…
I used 3D Coat before and it was really good, especially back then, had the best retopo tools (although now I just do retopo in zbrush). If I remember correctly I had some issues with 3d Coat, maybe had something to do with how my UVs were laid out? I had seams unpaintable or misaligned. Maybe it was just a video card…
I know there is grab brush that saves depth as alpha and rgb separately but you have to do save two times instead of just once. It's extremely annoying and also when you try to record this save in a macro action it often does less than the whole document for some uncertain reason. My guess probably by exactly same frame…
There is a lot of great advice here. Personally I wound up going to an Art Institute and over 3 years totaled around 60k I think (this was in 2005). I do not think it was worth it at all. Ask yourself what you're really looking for, do some research (already a lot of great info in this thread), and dive in. There's just no…
Oh yeah... I forgot to mention... Welcome to the boards. Don't take things to heart. We will sometimes say things that seem like your work is garbage and you should apply at your local Burger King but we all mean well. This place will seriously push your work to a higher level if you listen to what people are saying and…
I'll just re-quote this here, as I think it goes over what you're asking I'll try to get some images up at some point, still running through my head the best way to visualize some of this. I was actually in the same boat for a long time. I worked in exactly the same way, I was even a big proponent of object space maps a…
[ QUOTE ] you're missing the point entirely. this has nothing to do with people who love fun games vs. "gfx losers". R6 is a venerable series and i really wish that it could stay the kind of niche title it started out as, with all the planning stuff that people are understandably upset is missing from Lockdown. but it's…
So i have a bunch of spare time on my hand (newly unemployed robotoki artist) and i thought i'de start a new project and document the process as i went along here :) the inspiration basically came from an illustration my Penko Gelev https://www.artstation.com/artwork/detective-fd8dec33-01d0-418e-a8ba-21806d0808be so i just…
Hello all! Just finished up my Reel for school and thought I'd shoot it up here for the heck of it and get some thoughts. I'll be fully graduated from FullSail University this upcoming Friday and looking to bust onto the scene and possibly find some work soon! And even if not soon, super excited to tackle some big sid…
