In most cases not much work is needed on feet as they are barely seen and if they are they are so far away its not time efficent to put alot of detail into them. In regards to the face do you mean on the top pic or the bottom? as I havent placed any landmarks on the top one yet I was undecided weather to do them or leav it…
Some more WIP screens: Added the clothes and worked mostly on the head and face. I finally eneded up pulling the teeth out of the same mesh instead of inserting them. I will further detail the union of these with the face as well as add more details further on to the face. Next I reckon I'll work on the rest of the body so…
Thanks for confirming that. I was considering how I wanted to balance density. A few videos and tutorials said the face/neck should be their own thing, while others had the face packed in with the rest of the 'skin'. If it's mostly gonna be full-body shots with occasional face work, might make more sense to put it all on…
The fix would be this: Apparently max can tell facing direction based on the W factor of the UVW modifier. It's how a game engine knows to alter the normals of the mirrored faces to display properly. If when baking, max would ignore all faces with a negative W value, we would be A ok. As it is, I use unwrap tools to move…
For a basic rule of thumb, if you don't want two faces to curve towards one another after subdivision, you need to have additional faces between them. You could chamfer the inside corners of those inset sections, or just cut in the extra faces required. I would recommend spending some time experimenting with sub-d surfaces…

Great the advice you've all shared here, its all been a great help! Last night I had an artist message me, asking for a bit of an update on this stuff. I'm far from the expert of any of this, but I ended up going in enough depth in my reply that I figured I'd post here also, for any new artists stumbling upon the thread.…
Before I start on my thoughts about Gears I have to say Im not the biggest FPS guy and can honestly say Ive really only enjoyed about seven or so (Golden Eye, All of the Half lifes, Halos, Call of duties, Doom 3 and Fear with Desert Combat on occasions. Gears of War looks like a third person action game but it controls…
This looks great so far. A few things to think about. Her face is the tonal focus, yet the shading of her forms is as rough as the rest of the image, in fact, mostly rougher than his. Her hair needs a bit more love, forms are a bit undefined, lack volume. What reference are you using for the hair lighting? The gray hair…
Okay well after I tore myself away from the Guild Wars 2 beta. I got a little work done on this. :) Also, I'm on summer break now so I can start cranking a bit harder. Anyway, ONLY THE FINEST OF SCREENCAPS FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE. :D http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab236/littlebigbucket/Spawner_WIP6.png…
