Yep. Good old voxels. Voxels are very powerful, I wonder if zbrush and mudbox will ever make the transition. -

zbrush may be harder to learn but it's definitely more powerful and can almost be a complete hi-poly modeling tool. -

It's multi lights but I think it uses a ramp shader instead of just a really tight power on your lambert -
