Lots of under-the-hood attempts to get the foliage shader up to snuff, big shout out to fellow Polycounter Chris C for all his help and advice. Still can't get the 3D grass to behave. Discovered this morning when the sun rose that my tree branches don't match the ref in my yard (damn). Way too much droop, they actually…
@sacboi / @Lt_Commander / @JimmyRustler / others in this thread Re: Confidence, skill-level, feeling 'qualified' enough to contribute It's an interesting thing, Polycount. The forum is great for being mix of seasoned professionals and beginner/intermediate artists. I wonder though how one can post with authority,…
just remembered this, great resources for maxScript:* most active maxScript forum (the official Area forums are empty compared to this one) http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=98 Best maxscript script resource: * http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max If you need example scripts or existing solutions browse and…
The Scary School was never AAA. I even said in the thread it was originally suppose to be a mobile assignment. You're also misinterpreting what I meant by posting a picture of The Order. I never said I was going make that entire thing. It's suppose to serve as a reference after people disliked seeing art that couldn't be…
I agree about smoothing groups, they really need to go. Luckily there is a script that allows you to interact with edge smoothness/hardness almost the same way you do in Maya, select an edge and set it to smooth or hard. It was written by the same wonderful genius that wrote outliner for max, who is also a member of…
Well I mean if the player experience is built on "building things" I think that they should show more of that off. I mean legos being pre built with some intresting backgrounds etc like the lego video game series can be made really simple and still keep polycount low enough for atual lego pieces. to be built etc. I mean…
This is great to hear you guys saying they're OK - somehow it was drilled into me early on that a single-mesh model was superior to one made in pieces so I've always tried to focus on that. Only recently have I been taking a second look at "floaters" (just learned that's what you call it). It's WAY easier for certain…
My reason for saying that was because a bunch of Polycount members discussed the topic of whether you need to ask for permission when using another persons work for portfolio references. It's like if I took a drawing you did and made it into 3D without telling you and that work got me a job in the industry and not you. In…
You know if he copied the likes of Craig mullins as much as you, he might produce something that you don't feel like jumping all over him for. I hope you get banned from here, as we don't need someone with your character. raiskul: I hope this doesn't turn you off of polycount in anyway. I think your characters silhouette…
Hi! Looks like a regular color texture to me. The pixels at the borders repeating will prevent UV seams showing at low resolution (padding, mip mapping). A non square texture would propably help limit the unused space. My guess is the texture was created with Substance Painter, however one could create such a texture in an…
