The texture work on the robot legs are really well done. The only part of it I feel could be tightened up is that "knee joint" part of the leg, you sort of lose some hard edges in the part with the chain and gears on the side (I'm really not good at technical talk). But heck it still looks really good. Keep it up : )
"reload textures in the shader similar to how Maya's regular File nodes work" Could perhaps do something via MEL? There is a "shaderfx" command available (but not documented in MEL help docs) shaderfx -help; shaderfx -update might work. Not sure. I guess it depends if other shaders in the viewport use the same texture…
Ahh, thanks dude! I really didn't think it was the sorting order as I'd been putting planes around without a problem. However, I must have just been constantly selecting that one new object first all the time when I was merging.. Just selected it last now, merged and voila! Nice one!
-He looks more of a feline or canine to me. His rear end should be wider while the front slimmer. Maybe it will help achieving that result by switching the front legs with the back legs, and maybe modifying the body a bit.. -The head should be a bit bigger. -The nose should be slimmer all the way up to the eyes and not…
since the above link for the center to world script was broken, I am pasting the mel script below. Steps: 1. Select your mesh, 2. Center pivot by clicking on Modify>Center Pivot. 3. Open script editor and in mel tab, paste the following: move -rpr 0 0 0 ; 4. Run the script.
did you merge the object in Max? It looks like the normals are all screwed up, a problem I've had in Max a few times when merging/welding. couple things I always do now is reset XForm (utilities tab > Reset XForm) and reset the normals (Edit Normals modifier, select all, click reset)
That's already 10 times better man, maybe a little wider stance with the legs if you have it rigged up already :) Just try it maybe, the left leg (from his point of view, the front one) should probably act more as support, other than that: Great effin work man! Proud of you dude.
Love the flying body language... that tail between the legs :) Not sure about the armor though - it seems a little just stuck on there. Maybe look up some references to leather armor... and see how you could make it wrap around the legs, and/or make it like a vest on the chest. Looks pretty good though. Good luck :)
That is some great job Julien. That's a spooky spider ^^ I wish I'd never encounter one like that. I agree with Nintendo46,the legs look static like those of a crab, like if it was armored. I prefer the gold version of it, the purple one has some strong saturation on the legs. Cheers, keep up the good work!
Thanks that helps. So once I finish backing them out one by one, I would merge them all together? What if they are one UV map like I have with this Diner. I would i still be able to merge them together without having Normal Map overlapping each other?
