Depends on the result you are trying to achieve. For games particularly, having many edges converging to one single vert is a bad thing, that's why the balls in game are made from a cube and not a sphere. Yeah good point, i completely missed how wrong it is compared to the reference. The reference shows it as 2 top bits and then two longer bottom extrusions. Plus they're much flatter than my current suit so i'll update that soon. Also, i haven't contiued the zip down the middle through the abs section either. -

@Paskie: I like the way the teeth have come out, although I am a tad concerned they might not show up properly in game because of, well, distance. Also, they still look like they're part of the jaw; more like jagged extrusions of flesh than teeth. Maybe a little bit of an edge where the tooth meets the jaw? -

You should be hardening any edges that have ~90 degree angles. Any edge that is hardened needs to be split in the uv map. So for example the 2 extrusions and the base legs. All soft will look good in the Maya Viewport in high quality mode, but when you render in mental ray, and in game engines the errors will show up on… -

That's really nice. I think the leather could use some more hue variation. 5k triangles is a decent amount, and I think you could have put more into the skirt to help create the skirt ruffling. I would have personally modeled less of the small details and extrusions you have, but it looks great anyway though. :) -

Someone else posted an issue with Max8 Snaps, though I think it involved edge extrusions... I haven't personally had any issues snapping to verts in max8. Did you load an old UI setup? I know that loading old UI stuff from max7 causes some really wonky stuff to happen in max8. -

Wow, I cant stop looking at this! This is working so well, i reel like the flesh is soft, and the bone like extrusions are hard and are very alien like. Even the sack under his neck is cool, kinda like how a frog would puff It out when he feels threatened. Great stuff, Can't wait to see the textures! -

any design on flat surfaces is pretty easy, you can model your extrusions and as long as you have a loop of faces around them, they will smooth right in almost any case (well, at least if you know how to model subd) making these on curved surfaces is where it gets tricky -
