...how / where? A polygon made of 7 verts shouldn't suddenly have 8 or 9 just through triangulation.

You might want to get rid of polygons with more than 4 sides by dividing them into quads and tris.

I believe all the polygons have to be quads. The ones where it stops working look to have 5 verts...

Thanks CheeseOnToast, that helps alot. And the geometry wasn't mirrored, it was just a shape I made with create polygon tool
