[WIP] - [UDK] Escape

Hello everyone,
I' m actually working on a level for the UE3 with the UDK.
(I have begin this project 3 weeks ago.)
I have call this project "Escape" because the player must find objects and resolved enigma to escape the place where he is.
I want to make a real little game, but the UE3 is not so easy and I will try to work on this as far as possible.
I have made a little map.
And some assets.

I hope you like it and learn more other things with your answer.

I don't know if there are too much triangles in this asset. (The train stop)
I try to reduce and simplify the mesh but it's hard.
What are you thinking about ?

I like it so far. Two suggestions, can you post some wireframes, maybe someone can see where you need to get rid of unneeded geometry. Also I am currently working on my first UDK map, and I always heard that its best if you block it out. Just figured you might wanna consider it to possibly save you headaches later on.

most of your polys are in the bolts...they only need to be 8 sided cylinders at that res

I have simplify the base and the bolts, and now i have 5344 triangles.
But SnakeDoctor, i don't understand when you say "its best if you block it out" (English is not my mother tong)

Do you have a nice block out of how you want all of this to look? Maybe your jumping too much into the details early on?

still the bolts are taking too much polys. Are they beveled?

I have optimize as far as i can.
What are you thinking about this ? A or B ? (The B are less polygons)

Unless the character is 2 ft tall, 4.6k is probably still too much.

I might be over-optimizing here, but you could probably go as low as this (depending on how close you will see it)...I admit it is not much more than a blockout, but it could be enough with good normals...proportions are a bit off...

Try something in between...I mean...that train stop has about 4 times as many tris as the windmill, while the windmill would be considerably bigger in size...I guess...

Do you know if it's a better idea to do the Buffer Stop more like this picture ?
Or a mix of both.

If you really want to cut down the polys you could make alot better use for your normals. All the screws could be a part of the normal map.

I don't mind people modeling bolts, just keep them a 6 sided cylinder with no bevels or extra geo.

Hi everyone,
this day i almost finished some little crate and barrels with the normals and the AO.
It remains only the diffuse.
180 triangles for the big box, 100 tris for the little and 216 for the barrel and 370 for the other.
I would like to have a visual style like TF2.:)
