Sometimes people don't want pencil marks, and instead want soft smooth areas. Its a personal preference thing, and there's a lot of cool stuff you can do by creating variations in textures. Over blending/smudging is a pretty common newbie mistake though. But there's no reason to not have a tool because of it.
Also, side note when rendering your work avoid dark tones like black. I tend to use a cool blue or blue grey for my renders. Look into using Marmoset Tool Bag 2 for your renders as it removes most of the hassle other rendering methods have.
"Apparently it has nothing to do with the animations and the cool simulations in the teaser." That's the part that worries me. Allegorithmic has been pretty good so far with their no-BS approach to tools and marketing. Seing them go all Quixel-like with a barely relevant and cryptic "teaser" is not sending a great signal…
cool thanks, this tool seems to make things a bit easier. still wish there was some sort of "live" symmetry that shows what the center would looked like merged but is actually not merged. youd think maya would have resolved this issue by now or someone had developed a script for it, but noooo ;(
Oh man, this is so cool! You've inspired me, as soon as I have enough cash I'm going to get my hands on some models and the essential tools. I love the idea of creating physical, 3d things in real life that will stand without falling, it seems so satisfying.
Hehe well it looks nice :) In my opinion, drawing anatomy and poses is better use of your time ;) Great tool for drawing poses - http://www.lovecastle.org/draw/ Nice light threre Twoflower! and cool poses there Kinekun ^^ here is some quick stuff i did today. Day 114:
[ QUOTE ] I'm going to make some tutorials for the material editor , particle tool, and kismet this weekend for you all to get more familiar with UE3. Make the tutorials exclusive to polycount [/ QUOTE ] Thats a really cool thing to do lee! im considering pickin this up and have a whack at it myself
Thanks guys. Not sure I want to spend that much money yet so I'll just keep fooling around with the xsi mod tool and maybe some of the free programs. Maybe when I get good enough I will feel comfortable taking the step up to max or maya.
Now that HL2 is finally out, I'm really interested to see what kind of mods come from it. The editor looks pretty sweet, and the engine is of course extremely powerful. With these kinds of tools I can easily see a small team of technically minded artists making some cool stuff.
Alright, so, I just finished the game. While it had an incredibly strong "OMG this is awesomesauce all over my face!" start. . . it just kind of went (slowly) down hill all the way to the confusing and odd ending. I feel like the 2 things that really hampered the game, and became increasingly annoying as it went on, were…
