Luxap - Thanks for the comments! More to come Mr Smo - You're welcome and thanks for stopping by! shinobix - Thanks! SaferDan & MeshModeler - Won't go to in depth right now and I'll make a proper breakdown when I do get time but here is a screenshot of the modifiers I use and how it generally works. I noticed now after…
The problem is that you're straightening out the cone too much by making it straight in the UVs. This practice isn't bad in itself but if you do this with a cone with radii these different you will get very different texel densities on the top and bottoms like you already have. Tiling the texture won't resolve the…
I realize this doesn't fit into modeling tools but it is a close neighbor. Either in 3ds or preferably in an external program, so non-3ds users could buy it. [ame] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw3M9ZuQJqk[/ame] "Using 2d physics on Uv shells I believe uv packing can be automated with a much better result than current UV…
what you mean by resetting the mesh normals ? how shoudl I do it in 3dsmax or xnormal? in Xnormal I started by 0.5 , tried then from 0.25 up to 2.25 ... I remade also the interior portion of the gown , the one that gives the problems , I redid exactly like is the lowest sub level of zbrush , exported from zbrush the…
The mesh doesn't have to be solid. For example you can make a lot with splines and then extrude the shape. If the shape has to conform to a curve just make sure it has enough segments so it can deform properly. Another thing you can do is model the details with a plane and extrude the edges to follow a spline. Depending on…
It depends on what your final model needs to be able to do really. If it's static such as set dressing, non-interactive. Go for whatever workflow gets you the best result, quickest, with an optimised final asset. Good topology has a place here too though, it's easy to maintain and if you're in a setting where you're…
Yep polycruncher works on triangles so it makes a mess of nicely quaded meshes. Which if the topology doesn't matter then its a good tool to use. I don't think there is a quad based optimizer in any app, anywhere. If there is I would love to. Export the lowest sub-division and clean it up. Depending on how it was built…
Ror & Poop - both very well said. I understand that the game industry has always had to conform and deal with new tech, Ror, but how many small developers have you see churn out Doom3 quality titles? I'm the only artist that works on props/enviornment art here, so it's a bit more difficult for me. Poop - you're defineatly…
Hot damn this turned out really nice! Love the details and trim on the fabrics, and that tat is pretty exquisite. Face turned out nice too. If I had any crits, they would be that the skin (and especially the arms) looks rather unfinished in comparison. Needs a bit more tone and contrast, I think (though I sometimes have…
Simply looking at the guy you link in one of your portfolio pieces turns up some decent looking vehicle renders that immediately jump out at me, so i would copy what these three users are doing and come up with a style similar that stands out. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/gJwJVm…
