Baked out the pieces and created some modular pieces, currently experimenting with colours and levels of wear, I imagine the paint colour and amount of exposed wood will change throughout the project

lol well no shit, you ODed him on it. You need to start off in smaller doses. A drop or two, then once he gets accustomed to it, you start upping the amount.
the smoothing groups have no effect on the amount of draw calls just objects/materials but they might BREAK you triangle strips and make your model perform less good because of that ;)
So many lights do we not bake lightmaps anymore in the game industry? Scene is cool thou I like it alot, just not a fan of the amount of lights your using.

albedo is if i remember the amount of diffuse light thats been drawn back by a surface as opposed to selfilluminating surfaces, damn my english... its the diffuse color of the object :P
