You are 100% right :-) I'm actually working a proper mesh for the vaulted ceiling so it fits the architecture from that time. It will have the ribs supporting the entire ceiling. -

that happens cause the mudbox plane has scaled down uvs... mudbox needs that place to bleed... you could try to bake onto a 100% uv plane... -
