I think I know your problem. <- You have an Octopus on your head. Hard to understand your wall of text there. Managed DirectX is dead and buried. It's been replaced with XNA. 3DS Max 9 SMD didn't return anything useful? It got 11,000 results for me. A lot of them were about people posting their SMD import/exporters. -

A take on the character from the H.P. Lovecraft short story "The Shadow over Innsmouth". I see many human-fish hybrids where really quite a 'cool' or 'fearsome' aquatic animal is spliced in (shark-man, octopus head etc.) so I thought it would be fun to do something goofy like the Oranda goldfish. I tried to turn the hips and shoulders as much as I could without deforming the mesh (I'm not the best at skinning/rigging) I still want to model the octopus tentacles and I like this pose, so I think this will work for now. Looks great man. Definitely love the art and how everything looks and feels. Gameplay wise, I don't think it's for me. He seems more like a demon than a goblin. His head seems a bit large, but then again there's no reason for demons to follow the normal rules.
