exactly, if you count the rings in the weels there would be 8 rings on each cannon, there will be 16 cannons instanced on the ship, that would be 128 rings and if each ring would have 50 poly's or so, it would already be ~6000 poly's for such small details.
Starting a new character, not ready for his own Pnp thread yet: Getting normal maps to tile wasn't as hard as I thought, using the bottom 1/4 section out of a 1024 map: Just for fun, 2700 tris, 1024 maps, meant to be clean 8):
just some practice stuff: ~300 tris, 512 maps, going for a borderlands 'normal map with cell shading' look and a quick ship wheel: 8 tris, and a small section of a 1024 (obviously with mirrored uvs) Jaco and Unleashed: those are some awesome sculpts! both have alot of character and excellent form.
@MightyPea & Rens: thanks for the critiques and tips I did some more opitmizing, but there are still 8 sided cylinders at some places. I did optimize the gas bottles, wheels and chimney. I'm kinda calling it done for now and probably work on it some more after i'm finished with the rest of my environment. Just to have a…
Wires...Could do some optimizing, just still learning what a normalmap can and can't. Things that bother me are the wheel, bit to low poly and I might add some polies for the front and rear window. Most of my cylinders are 8 sides, so that could have been optimized. I always find it hard to know a good polycount and…
Working to better my understanding of composition and value. Some quick thumbnails. 1. Nuclear explosion in large city 2. Evil fortress gates opening to bridge over lava. 3. Soldier surveying desolate battlefield. 4. Low orbit temple corridor. 5. Starcraft Marine in trench disposes Zerg (Broodwars Intro) 6. Secret meeting…
Just a little something I'm working on from time to time. The high-poly base is actually 8 months old, and was started for a now dead mod project. Recently a friend showed me his Mossberg Shotgun, and I felt like making one too, but instead of starting all over, I revised and continued on this bad-boy. I still got some…
Lonewolf / almighty_gir: Yep, it's an RG 548 in natural ash with an edge bridge. I've had it for about 8 years now. CJE: Render settings are super simple, it's Mental Ray in Maya 2011 with Final Gather and Ambient Occlusion enabled, 1.5x secondary bounce weight on the FG with 4 diffuse bounces, a single Area light casting…
the paintover really helps, do that and it'll be much better :) another update with again not enough done but its 2 am i have to wake up at 8... i doubt i'll finish :D added most of the missing details, just 2 straps on her jacket missing, further optimized the mesh, worked on the texture and shading more, next to do -…
