Make sure it uses the alpha channel for the transparency and not the RGB channels. If all else fails, you could save out your alpha mask as a separate image.

My first post so be gentle :) 510 tris. 1x 256*256 texture. Looking back at it, the texels (?) look quite big on the shield compared to everything else.

well there are a lot of polys there that don't really define shape. specially around the eye, nose, etc. you can chop them off without any decrease in quality, and throw them somewhere else.
