Hey Phil, first off, cool art :) I'm just going to write down what's going through my head as I study your work. Gasoline enviro: Cluster vegetation together. Current it's scattered randomly and doesn't make much sense. Terrain needs some blended layers too. Current terrain material doesn't really look like realistic dried…
@jStins thank you! I'll add these notes to my todo, completely agree with all of it. In same boat with the font too, I want something that is a little bold and readable but also has an old world quality to it, but kind of rough and primitive, not ornate. I am gonna finish the last couple illustrations first but then will…
choo-choo-doo, choo-choo-doo, katamari da-ma-sheeeeeeeee-ee-eeee is what i say to mr. frumpy pants who wrote the article in question. if it doesnt speak to you anymore, might be time to find a new hobby, 'cause games still make me feel like a kid edit: sure the industry has problems and there's a lot of retreading old…
I agree with the rest and say: For your first bit of modelling, the dinosour is really neat! I myself am quite fresh to modelling and the #1 thing I recommend is also: START SIMPLE! I use to get too ambitious all the time. Start on fancy ideas which turn out to have no future in finishing. Best progress really is to start…
I've already started the blockout, going to be posting that soon. In the mean time here is some concept art for what I have planned. I am by no means a concept artist, but I'm definitely going to try getting better at it. I'm picturing this environment that once was that home of kings back in ancient time that would come…
An interlude to the interlude: I got Unreal Engine up and running in the new computer and found... not the latest version of the character project, but almost it. The initial imports are mostly to try and sync the colors I get in Blender with how they look in Unreal. UE is way too aggressive with the contrast and what's a…
characters/machines r pretty cool. Nice old-school look and good use of pixels too ;) Environments seem as a rushed afterthought tho to me. They r quite chaotical in color and therefore have rather random stlye, just bunch of mixed colored pixels. Some parts r too bright some r too dark or contrasty which makes visual…
Substance does work on Linux, at least the old Allegorithmic versions had dedicated Linux installers. If you still have a key you can get them from here: https://www.substance3d.com/legacy-builds/ Supposedly the steam versions still support Linux, I'm not sure if that is through the proton emulation layer or if it's…
No it's not a pluing. Adobe made "material" panel few years ago where you could load sbsar. it reads a layer as rgba input. Makes it into smart object and put live sbsar processing on top of it. So far I use height to normal map ,height to smooth curvature and height to AO "materials" It works best if you document follows…
