I'm doing a project for client that requires me to animate some of their products. They use SolidWorks to produce their models and then I've been exporting them from SS as STL's and importing to 3ds max. However! 3ds max only lets you import one STL at a time! This can become very time consuming when some of their products…
Microneezia: OK i tested the export all, and obj doesn't work when importing it into 3dsmax. I discovered that if you export as an STL (make sure you type that extension when saving it.) it opens in 3dsmax. Not sure if Maya supports stl files though.
Another all rounder, tailor made with young'uns in mind would be 3D Slash (a piece of cake) 'gamey' UI alongside works with .stl files - either free or paid licensing as well.
