Just a few comments on the materials so far: Your polymer is way too glossy. Gun polymers are not very reflective at all. Best I can describe it is that it's a 'softer' polymer with a very matte feeling to it. Ah right - my bad. :) What I'd do is just count how many sides there are to each gear (guestimate if you can't get it spot on or find more reference images.)
