If you are able to use UV mapped textures, you could also try SDF's generated in Substance Designer (if you have that as well). I think you would get best results if you set Distance Node to "Manhatten Distance". It's not 100% perfect but this is extremely fast for iteration since the process is completely automated and… -

I'ts funny how 100k is so small considering how much an average artist makes, much less a programmer. I'm assuming the 100k will help the guys making it, but it'll still be a side-project kind of thing. I'm hoping since they have just reached 100k, and they don't have too much to do, they'll take their time, not rushing… -

Added some photoscanned minerals and also some more assets. Those minerals required 100 photos each, which where then processed into Agisoft Photoscan. -

There's also a mask by polygroups feature. Mask the area>ctrl+w to convert mask to polygroup>set mask by PG to 100. And there's a dedicated Move Topological brush. -

I had a go at it by using Vanishing Point, but the concept has many elements, it's a digital paintwork and it's hard to get it accurate, because, the perspective is not 100% correct. -

no there is no such thing as too many polygons. you could even bake a normal map from a 100 million polygon mesh if your machine can handle.
