Hey everybody, I'm really looking forward to this contest and I think it'll be a lot of fun! I'm pretty new to animation but I've played LoL for a few years now and this seems like a great challenge. I'm planning on doing animations for Leona and I'm thinking of using the Mery rig. Can't wait to see what everybody comes up…
Drawcalls are unlikely to be your bottleneck (especially if its an interior environment). For context, GTA 5 (2013) had a couple thousand drawcalls per frame outdoors (https://www.adriancourreges.com/blog/2015/11/02/gta-v-graphics-study/). If they do become a problem, you can start merging similar meshes together in editor…
@kelly_caroline Be sure both your files share the same .fbx extension or the option Match by mesh name won't work (multiple meshes are likely merged in a single one when exporting in .obj). I also suggest to just explode your object instead, it usually provides better results.
not sure if foreigners can buy property here easily... although here's the fun stuff: being in a communist state you're not buying property here. You're merely buying the usage rights for 99 years (with the option for an extension) because everything belongs to the state. De-facto you're buying it though ;)
Hey Choco. thanks for such great tutorials. but i got a question about 3dcoat merging mesh. How do I control the amount of detail retained on the voxel mesh. Like how do I preserve the edge hardness of the original mesh. becuase by default Im losing a lot of the detail.
I installed it on win7 64 and it took about 20 minutes. Maybe little bit more. I'm still waiting for merging Ribbon with the modify tab. Its almost the same functionality in two places. I'm happy with the way Autodesk refines 3ds max now. Time for some testing!
something that highlights non manifold mesh errors. verts/faces/edges occupying the same space. Also polygons adjacent to each other with opposing normals. (this may not be a problem in newer version of Maya) might be nice to highlight 6 pronged stars also. 6 edges merging at 1 point
i use maya. sometimes when i bridge the mesh i sometimes get a hole, even if on both sides vertices are merged. nasty thing and hard to see. can you upload that part of your mesh and i can check. i'm pretty sure your mesh is corrupt.
Cheers guys for the critiques, I'll try to to improve the back details. Someone also suggested me to put a bit more love into the snow merging to the logs on the floor. It is true my main focus was the compressor itself and i created the scene around quickly. I'll keep you posted for the changes
So I have now finished 80% of the hard surface, only got a couple straps left, finishing the boot, and merging the middle between the mirrored pieces nicely. I am glad I did this, because I don't have to model nearly as much on Ziggs as I thought.
